El Poble Sec (“dry village”) is a neighbourhood of Barcelona Sants-Montjuïc and bordered by Sant Antoni, El Raval, La Barceloneta, Ciutat Vella, and Eixample. Poble Sec has about 70 hectares and is located in the space between Montjuïc and Av Paral.lel.

Predominately a residential area this is one area of Barcelona that has been able to maintain its traditional identity in the face of increased cultural diversity.

Whilst Poble Sec may not be home to any of the famous Barcelona landmarks, it has the benefit of being a central but quiet barrio to depart to after a long day. Av. Parallel is one of the busiest roads in Barcelona, however the streets of Poble Sec are thankfully more sedate, so there is no traffic noise to contend with when trying to get a good nights rest.

The area a wide range of independent shops, bars, restaurants, and cafés, giving you plenty to choose from. Two of the more popular spots are Plaça Sortidor and Carrer de Blai, which has the advantage of being pedestrianised, where you can find frequently find locals congregating and enjoying the al fresco lifestyle Barcelona is widely known for.

Being centrally located Poble Sec is well served by public transport – metro stations Poble Sec, Parallel and Plaça Espanya are on L3 (Green Line), and Parallel is also on L2 (Purple Line) which will take you directly to Passeig de Gràcia and the Sagrada Família. Many buses also run along Parallel Avenue, and the Aerobus directly to El Prat airport stops off at Plaça Espanya –cheap and convenient when you’re coming and going from your stay in Poble Sec.
