48H Barcelona Open House

48H Barcelona Open House Cultural Association is for the dissemination of the architectural heritage of the city of Barcelona, ​and ​is a non-profit organization that works offering cultural products and services in the field of architecture.

Its aim is to promote architecture, to teach it, to discover it; all as an essential component of culture. Its main tool of action and diffusion being the architecture festival in Barcelona, ​​48H Open House BCN.

Since 2010 the festival has been held regularly in October in the city of Barcelona, ​​a free weekend opening about 150 buildings of all types and size. The aim of the festival is to explain the architecture beyond the use to the occupier, valuing it as an asset that surrounds us, and stimulating knowledge and respect. Although born with a vocation identity and geographical coverage in the city, has references and forms part of the international network openhouseworldwide.org, which was the founder of Open House London 21 years ago.

This event started in London in 1992, and since the hours ‘Open House’ is being introduced around the world: New York, Dublin, Galway, Tel Aviv and since 2010 in Barcelona. ‘48H Barcelona Open House‘ offers the opportunity to understand and feel exceptional architecture, from the architectural experience. The activities of the Open House invites everyone to explore and understand the value of a well-built and designed space.

48H OPEN HOUSE BCN, is an open project that started in Barcelona in 2010. A cross-cutting initiative, aimed especially at Barcelona, ​​which involves the participation of different social, technical and artistic to “open good architecture in the city. ” The objective is to make them live the architecture and the city, giving them the opportunity Remiro it.

The architects who designed the work, users, or those responsible for the planning of an area of ​​the city are the mediators that help them to understand what is architecture, suggesting itineraries and offering them activities conferences all completely free.

Increasing public acumultat who participated in the first five editions is 206,700 people, from 25,000 in the first year to 50,660 views for the 5th edition in 2014, demonstrating a growing level of interest in architecture and the planning for our citizens. This initiative is valued and owned by different sectors of society with the help of more than 900 volunteers, 22 partners, and over 100 public and private owners with the involvement of more than 100 architects which has been instrumental to achieve a cultural exchange visitors, users and authors.

This years event will be held from the 24th to the 25th of October and although entrance to every building is free, this year if you don’t like queuing (inevitable with some of the most popular buildings) you can purchase a special pass that will give you priority entrance (€35 for one day and €55 for the weekend).
